Message from mid air

Burberry wanted to create an installation that would touch travellers on a personal level to help generate brand exposure at Terminal 2 Heathrow Airport.

Using travel as the theme of the installation Burberry leveraged a historic ballooning event. In 1908 Captain Edward Maitland took off from Crystal Palace in a balloon wearing a Burberry trench coat and flew to Meeki Derevi in Russia. During such a flight it was customary for the balloonist to drop mail from the balloon helping to deliver distant correspondence.

Burberry commissioned a 15 meter tall balloon hand made by Cameron Balloons. Surrounding the balloon products were displayed and also a customer experience. To create engagement two iPads are positioned around the balloon, users are encouraged to fill in their travel details to generate a personalised postcard which Buberry sent to a recipient of the user’s choice.
